About Land of mercy

Land of Mercy is an epic tale of magical realism based on Tibetan Buddhist belief and practices. Intertwined with its culture, belief and spiritual practice and a story of love, greed, betrayal, loyalty, redemption, love, self-sacrifice and the optimism of a people of deep faith that believe attaining enlightenment for oneself and working for salvation for others is man’s noblest calling as it brace itself for its entrance to the modern world.

Adapted from a Chinese novel titled Land of Mercy 悲憫大地 by renowned writer Fan Wen 范穩, The story begins in the 1920s in the picturesque Langsa valley of Eastern Tibet, where the greatest mystics, craftiest merchants and most notorious bandits are known to roam. It follows the trials and tribulations of Alashi, who after his father’s murder, goes on a long and arduous spiritual journey to fulfil his father’s dying wish and the prophecy pertaining to his own birth.

This animation film will be the first of its kind seen from the perspective of an insider as much effort is taken to ensure its accuracy in both the cultural and spiritual aspect. Although it has many scenes of supernatural occurrence as well as life after death experience it is neither a Super Hero movie nor a Religious film out to proselytise. We work towards giving film goers an enjoyable experience and also be appreciated by Buddhist and Tibetan alike that this story is true to their faith and aspiration.
